Review – My Very First NYX Purchases

20150328_010528So with my new found interest in all things skincare and makeup I have been watching an inordinate amount of YouTube videos and looking at tons of blogs. This is how I was introduced to NYX, I had never really heard much about it before. I’m not sure if you can even get it in New Zealand, I know that before I left over three years ago I had never seen it. I will have to keep an eye out next time I go home.

I have been on the look out here in Korea for any of the makeup brands that are mentioned in the videos and blogs that I have been viewing and recently at a visit to Watsons I found a very small selection of NYX products.

Watsons is the biggest health and beauty care chain store in Asia. It carries a lot of drug store type makeup and skin care, they also have perfume and a whole range of other things. It has a mixture of Asian and Western lines, you can find products such as Maybelline. L’Oreal, Dr. Jart, Neutrogena, Peripera, Cetaphil, Olay, Dove, Clio and Bioderma to name just a few of the top of my head.

I decided to try a few things and ended up getting three lipsticks. These were the only ones available so I got one from each line. There were some glosses but I decided just to go with these three for now.

NYX Black Label Lipstick – BLL130 Indigo

I thought that this one looked really pretty in the store, it has a kind of pinky-red color with a faint gold shimmer through it. It was the most expensive at 22.000won. I guess that is because it is the ‘Black Label’ line. I really like how it has the clear bit at the bottom of the tube that shows you the color. It’s nice to be able to see what you are looking for when you are in a hurry and you have a lot of lipsticks to look through. Not having to take of the lid is a bonus in my book. The packaging over all is quite nice. It has a faint sort of fruity/candy smell to it but it’s not very noticeable.

Once I put it on my lips the color is not as bold as I though it would be. That’s not a bad thing as it is still really pretty but it is quite sheer. I think it will be a great day-time lipstick and I think I will get a lot of wear out of it. It has a little bit of shine to it, you would not need any gloss over it as it’s just nice how it is. It went on very smoothly and felt and looked nice on the lips. I have only tried it on at home and not worn it all day yet. I have a feeling that it won’t last that long because it was so sheer but I could be wrong. If I remember I will update this when I have worn it for a bit longer.

Overall I am pretty happy with that purchase, it would have been better if it was a bit cheaper but I guess everything would.

NYX Matte Lipstick – MLS04 Pale Pink

20150328_01065620150328_01130520150328_010729I got this one because I have not had a matte lipstick before. I thought the color looked pretty in the store so thought I should give it a try. Once I put it on my lips however I realised that it is one of those pastel chalk color ones that I see people wearing on videos. It looks great on some people especially blondes but I don’t think it is for me. It reminds me of chalk (although much smoother of course) and it felt quite dry on my lips. The color is pretty however and I might be able to mix it with some gloss to get a finish that is more my style, it could be nice as a blush too. Not sure if matte is for me but it was good to try it out. You never know I might be tempted to try again in the future.

This one has a more of a chemical smell to it, still faint however. It was 16,000 won and comes in a basic black round tube. It has a clear part in the middle so you can see through to the lipstick itself which is nice. Again I like not having to take the top off to see the color. The finish on the tube is nice how it is also matte, the butter one has the same kind of tube but the finish on it is shiny. That and the clear writing makes it very easy to see what is what.

NYX butter Lipstick – BLS04 Mary Janes

The butter lipstick is my favourite of the three. I love the color and the formula. I hope I can go back and get a few more from this range. It was originally 15,000won but it was on special so I paid 12,000 which is very nice. The color is a beautiful deep red, a little bit on the burgundy side. It looks like it is going to be really bright but it’s more of a rich color, still bright but not quite eye popping. This is great for me as I love how the dark lip looks on me and I think I really suit it, however I Iack the confidence sometimes to just go for it. I think that I will be able to wear this one happily and not feel too self conscious.

It went on smooth and creamy, I can see why they call it ‘butter’.  It feels nice and not dry at all, my lips were a bit chapped from trying on the other two lipsticks and then removing them but as soon as I put this on they looked and felt better. It smells a little bit buttery but like the previous two it’s very faint. The case has the same clear bit in the middle that the matte one does so you can easily see the shade. Again I have only had it on at home to try it out so am not sure about longevity but I kept it on for a few hours and it held up well.
