Review – My Very First Stila Purchases

I recently made some purchase online from the Korean online shopping mall, Gmarket. You probably have heard me go on about this before, it’s where I do the bulk of my shopping

This time I found the mini-shop for AK Plaza. AK Plaza is big department store chain. Where I used to live in Suwon there as one that was attached to the Subway/Train Station and together they were huge. I used to get lost in there all the time, it was annoying because I could never remember which entrance or exit I needed to go to. Anyway they have all the big brands both Korean and Western but there is not one near where I live now.

Their online presence on Gmarket was extensive and very reasonably priced. I decided that I would splash out and treat myself to a few Stila products. I have heard about them from all the blogs I have been reading but have never seen anything here in Korea. The good thing about all the things I bought was that they each came with a free gift so despite being a bit more expensive than my usual fare I feel like I got my money’s worth. I’ve added the links to the Gmarket pages where I purchased these below for each one. They were all 26,400 won which was down from 30,000.

While I got the same type of lip color for all three I bought them off different pages due to color selection and also so I got different gifts. The ones I got are called the ‘Stila Color Balm Lipstick’ and it’s a type of color lip balm/lipstick hybrid. It’s more like a lipstick in color but it has hydrating and moisturizing properties like a balm.

I have to say I think I am in love. These are beautiful products and I can’t wait to add to my collection. The forumula is luxurious and creamy. As soon as I opened it up I could smell peppermint, it is really strong smelling. I did not know they had this in them when I bought them but it’s not unpleasent. When you first put it on you can feel the cooling, tingling of the peppermint. I really enjoy the taste and smell of peppermint so it’s good for me. I think it is supposed to help with lip plumping but I’m not sure if it does that much on that front. It only last’s about five minutes and once it’s on your lips the smell dissipates pretty quickly.

The style of these lip colors is gorgeous too, they come in shiny silver cases with the name stila etched down the side. On the inside of the lid it is lined with colored plastic which matches the shade. Then you can see this color through the etched out brand name. It’s a good way to be able to see which color is which. I got two of the normal ones in this line and then one is part of a ‘Special Collection’ so it looks slightly different (I will talk more about it below). They are very lightweight and the top of the tube has a little mirror so you can use it for applications on the go.

Stila Color Balm Lipstick – 01 Mia (Vintage Pink)

This is a very pretty pink, it’s quite soft and I find that it is lighter than my normal lip color which makes me feel a bit pale. I think it will be nicer for me with a gloss over it. I do love how creamy it is, because it’s a balm it just looks so nice on your lips. It has just a hint of a shine that is really pretty.

I wasn’t sure about it the first time I tried it because I thought it was too light but the more I try it the more I am coming to like it. I am really liking all of these because they feel so nice on, it’s great to have the color of a lipstick but it’s not drying like some can be. I love that they are a balm also.

Gift: Stila Ice Cream Collection Cheek Duo in Strawberry Cream Pop – The gift that came with this is a blush duo, it comes in this adorable little package and has two colors, pink and brown. The pink is a pretty pink, when you swatch it is quite light. This will be good for me as I am just starting out with blush so I like really sheer colors that I can’t go overboard with. I’m not sure about the brown, I don’t really know how you would use it but when you swatch it it comes up as a beautiful metallic brown/copper. Maybe when I get more adventurous.

Stila Color Balm Lipstick – 04 Ali (Raisin)

This was the first I tried of the three and I absolutely love, love, love it. I wore it on Friday night after receiving it in the mail that morning. It goes on super smooth and creamy. The tingling of the peppermint was a bit weird at first but you get used to it and it goes away pretty fast. It looked beautiful on and it just feels so nice.

It lasted very well for a few hours before dinner. After dinner I checked it and it had worn in the middle so I had to reapply. Another few hours of just sitting around talking left it almost good as new.

I did find application a bit of a challenge when I first put it on. The stick is quite wide but once I got used to it, it was fine.

Gift: Stila Lip Glaze in Pink Sugar – This is a nice gloss, it does not have much color once on the lips and it’s a tiny bit sticky. It might be nice over top of a lipstick for a bit of shine. I was actually going to get a three pack of these before I saw that one was a gift. I’m glad I did not get the other ones as I’m not sure how much use I will get out of it. The application is a bit hard, it’s one of the ‘wind up’ ones where you wind the top and it pushes the product out the other end. Nice for a gift but I’m glad I did not buy it or I might have been a bit disappointed. It does have a delicious sweet strawberry candy smell to it.

Stila Color Balm Lipstick Special Collection – Elyssa

This one came in a slightly different box, the other two were open faced ones so you can see the product but this one came in a full box. The color of the tube is slightly different with the pull off cover being similar but not having the colored plastic showing through the name. Instead it is copper to match the base of the lipstick which is also made with two shades of copper. It’s very pretty looking but I prefer being able to see the color.

The color is a deep dark wine burgundy. It’s actually really close to my Etude House one. The problem was that although they showed all the shades on the page when you went to purchase not all were available so the first few I wanted I could not find. I ended up choosing this one after a while because it looked nice in the picture. It is a beautiful color but it’s just so close to the one I have. I wish I had been able to get one of the ones that I had wanted in the first place instead because it’s nice to have variety.

Gift: Stila Convertible Color in Peony – This comes in a really cute little compact which has a mirror on the inside lid. I was not really sure what is was so I had to look it up. By convertible color they mean it is a lip and cheek color. The color I received is called Peony and is a brownish rose color, I was surprised at how pigmented it was as when I first opened it and swatched it, I thought it would be more sheer. I’ve never used a cream blush before so I look forward to trying it out.

In my package I also received two other little gifts, some lip and eye makeup remover cotton buds and a small 5ml tester tube of a brightening UV shield 3-in-1 lotion.

Overall I was very happy with my purchases and think these ‘Color Balm Lipsticks’ are a great addition to my collection.
