K-Beauty Expo – Soo Nature Spirulina Repair Eye Cream

Today I am reviewing the Soo Nature Spirulina Repair Eye Cream. This is another product that was provided to me for review purposes by the K-Beauty Expo. This eye cream is supposed to be for intensive moisturizing, skin nutrition, anti-wrinkle, tone up and anti-oxidation. It’s also marketed as good for sensitive and easily irritated eyes.

The eye cream comes in a nice little glass jar. The packaging is simple but clean and modern looking. The jar contains 30mls and costs 36,000 won which is a good size and price for an eye cream. It comes with a little spatula but if you are like me that gets lost after about a week. I think that I do generally prefer eye creams that come in a tube. They are simply that much easier to use and as it is around your eyes hygiene is of course extra important.

Ingredients:

Soo Nature products contain no potentially harmful ingredients. Their aim is to provide safer natural products for people of all ages, including pregnant women and people with sensitive skin. Soo Nature carefully selects only the best ingredients that the skin really needs.

According to the website the main ingredient in this eye cream is Spirulina and it contains 6000mg of spirulina extract and 1000ppm spirulina powder. ‘What exactly is Spirulina and why do I care that it is in my skincare?’ I hear you asking. Spirulina a blue-green algae found in freshwater. It has been called the super-food of the future and you may have seen it at your local health shops. Perhaps you have even tried it. The reason for adding it to your diet is because it is full of protein, amino acids, calcium, iron, magnesium, and vitamins A, E, and K. It can help to boost immunity, fight allergies, and reduce fatigue.

So why add it to our skincare? Spirulina is also a powerful anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants help to prevent oxidation which is the aging of cells. When we breath in oxygen obviously it’s good for the body but the active oxygen generated during the breathing process actually promotes cell aging.  Anti-oxidants can help by disrupting normal cell activity and removing the extra active oxygen that causes cell aging. Because Spirulina is an anti-oxidant, using it in skincare increases the skins elasticity and helps take care of wrinkles.

Some other notable ingredients include –  Phytosqualane a natural moisturizing ingredient that keeps moisture, helps to prevent oxidation and gives the skin elasticity and shine. Trehalose which draws moisture from the environment to keep skin cells hydrated and has high water retention. It keeps skin looking plump and clear.

This eye cream has lots of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients for skin nourishment. It contains jojoba seed oil and angelica gigas root extract which help to tighten and fill wrinkles and protects the sensitive skin around the eyes.  Adenosine improves collagen synthesis on the skin and helps to restore elasticity.  Honey provides lots of nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins and carbohydrates. This helps to moisturize and calm the skin and to form a protective barrier.

There are also some whitening ingredients including niacinamide and galactomyces ferment filtrate. These can help to brighten and illuminate the dull eye area. Niacinamide in particular is one that is stable in heat and light so it can be used both day and night.

Because they use so many natural ingredients Soo Nature do recommend that you patch test before you use this product. I know I am guilty of not doing this enough but I would definitely advise you to do it with eye cream.

My thoughts:

I really like the feel of this eye cream. It has a soft, smooth, sherbet-like texture that is interesting. It’s probably not for everyone but I love it. I have been using this on both my under eyes and my eyelids as well. I always like to use my eye creams that way so it’s important that they are okay for both areas. I just use my finger to swipe it round my eye area and some soft tapping to help it to absorb.

After using this cream my skin feels smooth, hydrated and nourished. Despite it’s thicker and denser texture it does not feel heavy and it absorbs very well and quite quickly. It does not leave behind any residue or greasy feeling on the skin at all.

One of the main things that I was interested in was if this would irritate my eyes. I have reasonably sensitive eyes and I find that often if the creams are too thin then they can seep into my eyes and irritate them. This cream does not do that at all. I think it is because the texture is that little bit more dense so it does not move around much.

Along with the pleasant texture it also has a pleasant scent. It’s one of those things that can be different for everyone but I think it is nice. I don’t think it’s overwhelming or anything but it is noticeable. It smells fresh and plant-like which would be because it has a lot of natural and botanical ingredients. I actually think that it smells somewhat like the Kicho Sunscreen that I reviewed recently over on Instagram.

I’m not sure if it has helped my wrinkles much, it does immediately because the texture it has a kind of blurring effect, but it definitely feels hydrating. I probably should have taken some before and after photos but I was not organized enough.

Overall I think that this is a good eye cream for a good price. If you are looking for something with nice natural ingredients and a solid texture that won’t slip around and irritate your eyes then this could be for you. I like it and will be continuing to use it. I think it will last me a while too.
